With the weeks flying by, we are gearing up for our spectacular Love Wine, Love Chile event in September. If you have missed it, Love Wine, Love Chile is a fantastic one-off evening with Oz Clarke, Susy Atkins and Olly Smith and some of Chile’s finest wine producers, a rare opportunity and a real treat indeed.
Last week we spoke to Susy about Chile, now it’s Olly’s turn to give the lowdown on all that is great and good about this fine wine producing country…
What do you love about Chilean wines?
The diversity. When you consider the range of Chile’s landscape and climate from the ocean to the Andes, deserts to glaciers with everything in between, the backdrop is near perfect to tackle a kaleidoscope of wine styles across a whole range of price points. Chile can make a wine that’s perfect for everyone.
What’s exciting right now about Chile?
Chile has long pioneered environmentally friendly vineyard practices, I remember on my first trip visiting Matetic and Emiliana when biodynamic wine growing was still considered quirky. Today Chile is rightly praised for respect for the environment and wine growers who are passionate about purity.
What are you looking forward to about this tasting?
Meeting up with old friends from Chile! Whether it’s a winemaker or a wine itself, I’ve so many fond memories of Chile and I can never get enough. A secret Pisco Sour wouldn’t be amiss too if that’s allowed?
Any good tips on what to look out for?
Old vine reds. Secrets abound tucked in the wild Chilean landscape and some of their very best wines are from forgotten vineyards teased back to life by the gentle hands of Chile’s pioneering wine posse. By tasting back in time, the future of Chilean wine grows more characterful.
Love Wine, Love Chile is a very special one-off tasting being hosted by Oz Clarke, Olly Smith and Susy Atkins, which will shine a light on the ongoing and extraordinary evolution of Chilean winemaking. Submerge yourself in Chilean culture with hundreds of wines to taste as well at this walkaround tasting. Many of the winemakers will be there in person so you can get the real stories behind the great labels.
