Don’t forget that next week is Wine Education Week. In case you missed our previous blogs, the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust), the largest global provider of wine qualifications, is launching the first ever worldwide ‘Wine Education Week’ from 9 -15 September 2019 as part of its 50th anniversary campaign.
There are loads of fun and educational events taking place around the UK during the week, a full list can be found at www.wineeducationweek.com
Wine Education Week aims to engage with the growing population of wine consumers worldwide, encouraging them to learn more about wine.
The campaign kicks off next Monday (9th September) with food and wine pairing launch events across the world at 6pm local time in 24 countries. Starting with Auckland, New Zealand and ending with California, USA, WSET is aiming for a continuous 24-hour global food and wine tasting session.
Our very own Olly will be taking part in the UK launch event which will involve an attempt to break the Guinness World Records title for the largest ever recorded sommelierie lesson which currently stands at 309 people.
The food and wine pairing masterclass takes place at The Kia Oval, London SE11 and is sponsored by The Wine Society. Olly is hosting with sommelier Virgilio Gennaro (Wine Director at Giorgio Locatelli Consultancy) and attendees will be given an insight into the art of pairing food and wine, guiding them through a tasting of four wines matched with complementary foods. Tickets to the event are still available at a special discount price of £10 on Eventbrite using promo code WSET50. This is a real opportunity to be part of something epic.
Following the launch, Wine Education Week will roll out in 48 countries more than 500 fun educational events to encourage consumers to learn more about wine and to drink ‘better’. With introductory sessions ranging from ‘Finding the Perfect Match’ to ‘World Wine Monopoly’ to ‘Mastering Maturation’, the events will help consumers make wiser choices when choosing a bottle.
We can’t encourage you enough to be a part of Wine Education Week, the WSET are a fantastic bunch who do so much for the wine industry and education around the world.
We are also thrilled that the WSET will be joining us in Cambridge this year for our Winter Wine Festival (9th November) along with the Cambridge Wine Academy. There will be more learning in Manchester with The Manchester Wine School taking part in our Cracking Christmas Wines (7-8 December). These are great opportunities to meet some extremely lovely people who adore teaching folk about wine.
